Modified Ka-Bar

The USMC Combat/Utility Knife, more popularly known as the Ka-Bar, is a great backwoodsman's knife but has just a little too much "combat", which interferes with the "utility". More to the point (no pun intended), that cross-guard has gotta go. While a finger guard on the sharpened side may be a good thing (though not really necessary), having a guard stick out on the back of the blade just gets in the way. I don't really know if it is a good thing for combat or not, since I am not a knife fighter. If somebody comes after me with a knife, I'm not gonna say, "Wait a minute, this is not fair. Let me put my rifle down and get my knife".
With that in mind, I decided to break out the trusty Dremel and remove the useless appendage. The results can be seen in the photo, and it really does feel more handy and handleable now. Click on the picture to expand.
Now, to do something about that crappy sheath...
